A derelict yellow building along the Gold Coast Highway has been given a new lease on life as a popular Mexican restaurant is preparing to take over the space and expand their empire.

After lying dormant for nearly half a decade, the building on the corner of Gold Coast Highway and Armrick Ave in Broadbeach will soon be the city’s second Costa Taco restaurant.

Costa Taco co-founder Nick Stanley said having the Broadbeach restaurant was a “pivotal moment” for the business.

Nick and his brother Matt Stanley debuted the Mexican concept at the Currumbin Community Markets in 2020 and now have venues in Palm Beach and Byron Bay.

“(The Broadbeach venue) is about expanding our mission to bring a truly authentic Mexican experience to the Gold Coast,” Nick said.

“We’re creating a space where the energy of Mexico meets Australian beach culture.”

Costa Taco is well-known for their street-style beef birria tacos, quesabirrias and their gringo nachos.

The menu also features elote street corn, classic margaritas, ceviche tostadas and more.

“Guests can expect our commitment to quality and authenticity from local-soured ingredients to traditional recipes,” Nick said.

“It’s more than just great food, it’s about creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere where people can gather, share stories and feel the genuine spirit of Mexican hospitality.”

Matt said they were proud to build and support a community where Mexican and Latino immigrants can “feel at home, speak their language and share their heritage”.

“Our goal is to create a positive culture that celebrates diversity and nurtures talent.”

The new Broadbeach venue was set to open in late August and will trade seven days a week from 12pm to 9pm.
