The new owner of one of the most popular Asian eateries on the southern Gold Coast has shared his plans for the venue.

Mermaid Beach local Medi Lababi, 28, has been revealed as the latest custodian of the former Ally Chow restaurant and plans to transform it into Monsieur Chow within two months.

Ally Chow’s founding owners Trent and Leisha Scarr moved on from the business on October 6, saying they were making way for a new adventure.

Mr Lababi said he was “incredibly excited” to take over “such a successful and well-loved restaurant”.

“Ally Chow has set a high standard and we look forward to continuing that legacy while adding our unique touch to the dining experience,” he said.

Mr Lababi said he would keep 90 per cent of the original Ally Chow menu, but planned to introduce “refined French flavours”.

“We want to keep the element of surprise for what we will add, but think Asian beef tartare or Asian crepes,” he said.

Monsieur Chow will also retain the chef and kitchen staff “to ensure the same quality of food”.

Mr Lababi said he had been working as a hospitality manager for the past three years in Nobby Beach, falling in love with the area after moving to Australia eight years ago.

“I’ve dreamt of opening a restaurant with an elegant, charming and seductive ambience like Monsieur Chow for many years,” he said.

“Nobby Beach has such a vibrant food scene and I felt it was the perfect location for Monsieur Chow.”

While he was aware of the possible impact of light-rail construction on trade, he was confident people would still visit.

“We believe that our strong following and the restaurant’s reputation will help us navigate any potential challenges.”

Monsieur Chow will remain open during the renovation process but is scheduled to officially launch in late November.

“We are not closing for renovations and all your favourite dishes, drinks and service will remain unchanged as we ensure a seamless transition,” Mr Lababi said.
