Man allegedly assault by machete-wielding gang in Southport robbery

A Gold Coast man’s concern for a friend has turned into a nightmare after he was allegedly attacked by a machete-wielding gang and had his car stolen. How you can help police

A machete-wielding gang have allegedly threatened a man before violently assaulting him and stealing his car during an armed robbery on the Gold Coast.

The victim had dropped a female friend off at property on Pohlman St, Southport, at 1.50am on Monday when a Queensland Police Spokesman said he entered the front yard out of concern for the woman.

“While in the yard, the man was allegedly confronted by multiple offenders who threatened him with a machete and assaulted him,” the QPS spokesman said, adding the victim, 48, with minor facial and head injuries was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

The offenders allegedly stole the man’s Ford Everest 4WD – later tracked to Main Beach where officers found it abandoned.

“Two female suspects were located nearby and taken into custody a short time later. They have since been released without charge,” the QPS spokesman said.

“A third suspect was located by officers later that morning.”

A 29-year-old Southport man has been charged with unlawful possession of suspected stolen property and was issued with a notice to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on June 9.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage from the area to get in touch.
