Mayor Tom Tate has annointed a new Euro-inspired Gold Coast bar-restaurant - with a “Tommy Hawk” steak dish in his name - one of his “favourite places”.

Mayor Tate and Deputy Mayor Donna Gates joined party-goers including Big Brother reality TV identity Skye Wheatley to launch Juju in Nobby Beach on Friday.

After his Deputy Mayor tried and failed to cut the opening ribbon, Mr Tate - fuelled by 1.5kg of “Tommy Hawk” - grabbed the over-sized scissors..

With co-owners Trent Redman and Cody Beck pulling the ribbon tight, pro-development Mr Tate slashed through it with all of the vigour he applies to cutting red tape in his day job.

“Being the mayor of the Gold Coast you get the opportunity to come and celebrate some of the best places. Tonight we are celebrating Juju.

“Thanks to Trent and Cody for having confidence in the Gold Coast. You have made a fantastic choice.

“I have a challenge for you - next time you come back you do the Tommy Hawk challenge. 1.5kg (of steak). A lot of protein.

“This is going to be one of my favourite places.”

Diners who down the “Tommy Hawk” dish solo get it free - Mayor Tate, Deputy Mayor Gates and Mayoress Ruth Tate completed it between them.

Mr Beck said the “Tommy Hawk” - a tomahawk steak cut covered in “the famous Juju secret sauce” at market price - was “to honour fourth-term Mayor Tom Tate”.

“The Tates love a scotch on the rocks after tomahawk steak. It was epic to see the mayor and mayoress get amongst the action in the playful spirit of Juju posing up with VIP guests like the rock stars they are.”

Other guests at the two-storey venue on the main Nobby strip included Surfers Paradise MP John-Paul Langbroek, daughter and SeaFM radio host Bronte Langbroek, ex-Baywatch star Tania Zaetta and Amir Prestige principal Amir Mian.
