“A severe thunderstorm is likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding,” the warning said.
A BoM statement said Currumbin Creek had recorded 108mm of rain within two hours on Thursday morning.
The warning urged residents to park their cars undercover and away from trees as roads on the southern Gold Coast began flooding by 7am.
These roads included: The M1 in Tugun, Nuban Street in Currumbin Waters and Galleon Way in Currumbin Waters.
“Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous,” the warning said.
