Gold Coast influencer Ashy Bines has been blasted online after posting a video of herself over the weekend hanging out of a moving car without a seatbelt.
In the since deleted footage the “health and wellness entrepreneur” had her head along with half her back out the window of the car with her arms outstretched while filming herself looking up to the sky on a public road.
The incident has sparked heated comments online with followers telling her to “do better” as a role model to young women.
“I know of someone who got beheaded doing something similar,” one person wrote in response to the video.
“My old babysitter’s son died by doing this, I’ll never understand how some people truly think they’re invincible,” another said.
Another wrote: “It’s illegal to have your arm hanging out the window let alone your head and shoulders too. Normally I’d just think ‘idiot’ but if she still has a million followers, it’s really poor form to influence those who are vulnerable to copying such stupidity.”
It’s not the first time the influencer – who has a million followers on Instagram and around 500,000 across TikTok and Snapchat – has been embroiled in controversy.
Ms Bines has faced bitter legal feuds over the years, but has continued to build her wellness empire.
Ms Bines was contacted for comment.
Gold Coast police said they wanted to remind motorists and passengers that hanging out of a moving vehicle is not only dangerous but also illegal.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said any “reckless behaviour” significantly increased the risk of serious injury or death.
“Under Queensland road rules, passengers must remain properly seated while a vehicle is in motion,” they said.
“Those caught hanging out of a car window or sunroof could face fines exceeding $1200, with additional penalties for drivers who allow this behaviour. Police urge all road users to prioritise safety and report any dangerous driving incidents to authorities.”
