A man has been rescued from a burning unit next to a busy Gold Coast intersection on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to the fire at the West Burleigh Rd and Gold Coast Hwy intersection in Burleigh Heads at 5.10am.

A Queensland Fire Department (QFD) spokeswoman said multiple crews arrived, rescuing a man in his 50s from the burning unit.

Paramedics took him to Gold Coast University Hospital to assess the smoke inhalation.

It’s believed the blaze was sparked by the airconditioner.

Fire crews extinguished the fire at 5.30am.

A Gold Coast police spokesman said they were not treating it as suspicious.

QFD investigations are ongoing.

HOUSE COLLAPSES AFTER LATE-NIGHT BLAZE

Fire also destroyed a home in Nerang overnight.

Emergency services were called to a two-storey house on Mount Nathan Rd at 9.50pm.

A QFD spokeswoman said 80 per cent of the home had collapsed by the time crews arrived.

Fireys had the fire under control and extinguished by 10pm.

A Gold Coast police spokesman said they were not treating the blaze as suspicious.

Luckily, nobody was home at the time of the fire.

Investigations are ongoing.
