35-year-old Rochedale man charged after crashing alleged stolen car in joy ride
A 35-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly crashing a stolen car during a dangerous joy ride through the southern Gold Coast.
A man has been charged after crashing an allegedly stolen car while on a joy ride through the southern Gold Coast.
Gold Coast police were called to a two-car crash at the intersection of Bermuda St and Lake Orr Drive in Burleigh Waters at 5pm on Saturday.
A Queensland Police statement alleged one of the cars – a grey Volkswagen Golf bearing stolen registration plates – was spotted by residents driving in an “erratic and dangerous manner” through Varsity Lakes before the crash.
Police alleged the 35-year-old driver then smashed into the back of a white Toyota HiLux at the Bermuda St intersection.
It was alleged the driver of the Volkswagen fled the scene, however officers found him a short time late on Carnamah Lane where he was arrested and taken into custody.
The 35-year-old Rochedale South man was charged with multiple offences, including one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving while disqualified by court order (repeat offender), unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, failing to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash, receiving tainted property, wilful damage of police property, and contravening a direction or requirement of a police officer.
He is due to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday (October 20).
