A man has been charged after allegedly hitting a colleague with a golf club, breaking their jaw, during a work party at a Gold Coast attraction.

A man has been charged after allegedly hitting his colleague with a golf club, breaking their jaw, during a work party at a Gold Coast attraction.

Gold Coast police were called after the alleged incident at Topgolf Gold Coast in Oxenford at 6pm on Saturday.

It is understood an altercation occurred between a 35-year-old man and a 20-year-old while they were at a work function.

Police allege the 35-year-old man struck his 20-year-old colleague in the face with a golf club.

Their colleagues rushed to break up the fight before Topgolf security called triple-0.

Paramedics were called to the scene and took the 20-year-old to Gold Coast University Hospital with a fractured jaw.

The 35-year-old Deception Bay man was charged with grievous bodily harm while adversely affected in a public place.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on June 9.

A Topgolf Gold Coast spokesman said they “strongly condemned this type of behaviour”.

“The safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members is our highest priority at Topgolf,” they said.

“There was an incident during a private group event on Saturday night which resulted in a guest allegedly being struck with a golf club by another guest from the same group.

“Topgolf’s on-site security and operations team swiftly responded providing first-aid and removing the guest while also contacting Queensland Police and Ambulance Services, who arrived shortly after.”
