Man stabbed on Moorabool St, Geelong

A man has been stabbed in an alleged gang related attack in the Geelong CBD.

A crime scene was established outside the Geelong Shisha Bar on Moorabool St at about 8pm on Thursday night.

Witnesses reported seeing “at least two groups” congregating on the street before the bloody incident.

A 24-year-old man was taken to the Geelong hospital for treatment.

The area, adjacent to the Moorabool bus stop, has long been known as a hotbed for violence and is monitored around-the-clock by police CCTV.

A Victoria Police spokesman said officers were investigating the attack, with paramedics arriving at the scene to find the man injured.

It’s still unclear whether he was stabbed inside a venue or on the street.

Motorists driving towards the scene reported the road being blocked in both directions last night.

Police tape could be seen cordoning off areas around the Shisha Bar and on the other side of the road.

“Scary times on Moorabool St,” one concerned resident said after the stabbing.

The incident is just one of a long list of recent attacks at the well-known trouble spot.

Assault at Westpac Bank

A vicious fight on May 23 saw a man attempting to flee a group set upon and assaulted as a crowd of mostly teenagers watched on.

The next day, an audio recording captured the terrifying moment a man yelled “hands up” inside the nearby Westpac bank, on May 24, and demanded cash before clobbering a teller over the head.

Earlier in the same month, on May 1, a 16-year-old boy was bashed by a gang of “eshays” along Little Malop St.

The group of around 10 young people, wearing hoods and masks, were caught on CCTV attacking the young boy with at least one knuckle duster in front of stunned onlookers.

The altercation is believed to have started at the corner of Little Malop St and Moorabool St, where the group followed and provoked the young boy as he walked away.

No arrests have been made in relation to Thursday night’s stabbing.
