An East Geelong man with links to a controversial church has pleaded guilty to a raft of charges related to the persistent sexual abuse of multiple children.
Todd Hubers van Assenraad, 38, who also goes by Todd Hubers, appeared in the County Court at Melbourne on Thursday via videolink and pleaded guilty to 16 offences related to the rape and persistent abuse of children.
This includes four charges of persistent sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16, five counts of sexual assault of a child under the age of 16, and four counts of sexual penetration of a child under the age of 12.
There were also single counts of an indecent act with a child under the age of 16, sexual activity in the presence of a child under the age of 16, and possession of child sexual abuse material.
Hubers was a senior figure within the Geelong Revival Centre, a controversial Pentecostal group that has its base in Norlane.
He had faced 36 charges when the case was sent up by the Magistrates’ Court in October last year.
At that hearing, Hubers pleaded not guilty and was set to face a lengthy trial.
Following his guilty plea, Hubers will now face a two-day plea hearing next month.
Hubers was initially charged in January 2023 over the offences, which relate to nine boys – all under the age of 12.
It is understood the crimes took place between 2016 and 2023, at various locations across the Geelong region, including public swimming pools.
One victim was sexually abused over a two-year period, while another over six months.
A software engineer by trade, Hubers founded network security company Dull in 2016.
At his first mention in January, the court heard Hubers had made “substantial admissions” during a police interview.
The Addy reported at the time that Hubers had been arrested after he attended a police station to self report.
