More women have come forward demanding compensation from a Bellarine Peninsula medical clinic that employed a doctor jailed for the rape and sexual assault of multiple patients.

Arnold Thomas and Becker lawyer and partner, Jodie Harris, said the firm had issued proceedings against Peninsula Family Medical Practice in the Supreme Court on behalf of three women in relation to alleged abuse by Dr Shafiul Milky.

One of the victims, Fran Millington, spoke out again last week about the consequences the decade long effects of the assault has had on her.

Milky is serving an 11 year prison term after a County Court jury found him guilty last year of 15 charges against six women, including two counts of rape.

Ms Harris, who leads the firm’s Geelong branch, said the Ocean Grove centre had been served for three women Dr Milky was convicted of abusing, with the combined suit tipped to run into the millions of dollars if proven.

It’s understood they are investigating another nine cases and anticipate issuing further proceedings against the clinic “in the near future”.

“We are also concerned that there may be more women coming forward with further complaints,” she said.

It comes as the disgraced former doctor launched an appeal against his conviction and sentence in the Supreme Court of Victoria, which has been set for June 7.

A statement of claim for Ms Millington alleges the sexual assault and batteries inflicted on her by Milky resulted in significant economic loss and injuries, including post traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Ms Harris also revealed that as more women came forward, the firm’s investigations indicated there had been a number of complaints made to the Peninsula Family Medical Practice and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

“The firm is concerned complaints may not have been acted on,” she said.

The Ocean Grove clinic was contacted for comment but declined.

Milky’s crimes against the patients occurred while he worked at the Shell Rd practice and with the National Home Doctor Service between September 2012 and February 2019.
