Surfers have been forced out of the water at a beach near Anglesea after a great white shark sighting this afternoon.
Victoria Police were called to Point Roadknight just after 2pm after reports a “large shark” with a “large fin” was spotted moving in with the tide.
Swimmers were evacuated from the water and the beach was closed.
Police were assisted by the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club on the ground, with a helicopter launched in an attempt to find the shark.
It’s understood the estimated six-to-nine foot juvenile predator was clearly visible and highly mobile.
“With the huge swells, the shark clearly was looking for the relative calm of roadknight bay,” one witness said.
A spokesman from Surf Life Saving Victoria and the Victorian Fisheries Authorities confirmed the sighting on Monday afternoon.
It’s understood a witness called triple-0 to alert authorities.
It comes after a father and son came face-to-face with a five-metre great white last month near Barwon Heads.
The massive shark circled their boat about a kilometre from The Bluff on Thirteenth Beach.
They captured the incredible moment on camera.
