A young Cats fan with a rare brain tumor has had the surprise of a lifetime.
Eight-year-old Hunter has undergone major surgery and six weeks of radiation after being diagnosed last year.
Despite living on the other side of Melbourne, Hunter is a big Geelong fan, with his love for the Cats keeping his spirits high through his battle.
On Friday morning, Hunter’s mum Kelly spoke to Nova’s Jase and Lauren, with their co-host Clint Stanaway revealing he’d been working on something special for him.
“Hunter’s a brave eight-year-old boy who loves his sport and his Cats, and we wanted to surprise him with something he will never forget,” Stanaway said.
The three met later in the day at GMHBA Stadium, where Hunter was greeted by his idol Jeremy Cameron, who gifted him his own number five guernsey.
This was followed by a tour of the facilities, before Hunter made his way out onto the ground to have a kick with his new mate Jezza.
“Hunter’s a fantastic kid and it was great to have him out here,” Cameron said.
“It was nice to have a really nice day for it and all the boys got around him which was perfect.
“He taught me a few things, actually kicked a couple of really nice dribble kicks from the boundary.
“He’s got really good skills.”
Hunter’s mother Kelly said it was her son’s “ultimate dream”.
“With everything that he’s gone through, he doesn’t complain about anything so just something to brighten his day, it was amazing,” she said.
