A missing father who vanished after trying to access help at Geelong Hospital has missed his daughter’s first birthday.
38-year-old Adam was last seen walking along Bellerine St about 12.30am on Sunday, April 27.
His cousin Sally made a tearful plea for information about his whereabouts on Thursday following an extensive police land and water search.
“It’s been such a long time for no trace, it’s a question of what’s happened.” she said.
“He’s got three beautiful girls, his youngest has just turned one in the time he was missing. His sister has just had her first baby, so there are a couple of big events he wouldn’t miss. It’s so out of character.
“He was a smart, funny guy … he’s loved by all friends and family. He was cheeky.
“I can recall him and my brother chasing me around the backyard with a spider he was just cheeky, always fun,” she said.
On the night of his disappearance, the father-of-three who struggles with mental health issues, attended the Geelong Hospital.
Detective Senior Constable Travis Wright said, “He went to the hospital to ask for some help, it was a busy night at the Geelong Hospital and he wasn’t seen to straight away and he wandered off. He wasn’t admitted, he didn’t obtain any treatment on the night.”
Since that night, Adam has not accessed his bank accounts or used his phone.
“It’s gut-wrenching, there is a lot of people out there who need help and the services aren’t there for them, we are so overpacked … it’s hard to think that he’s reached out and he feels like there was no one there to help,” Sally said.
Wide-scale searches have been conducted across the Geelong, Hoppers Crossing and Grovedale and earlier this week searches extended to the Barwon River with the help of Water Police.
Detectives said Adam was spoken to at the James Harrison Bridge, known as a popular place for rough sleepers.
“We hope he’s fallen in with a friend or someone there, and is just not able to find his way home,” police said.
On Thursday, Victoria Police released the last known footage of Adam from the day he disappeared.
“He was wearing very dark clothing at the time, and he’s disappeared into the ether and wasn’t able to be tracked by CCTV,” the detective said.
Sally said Adam’s family is trying to stay hopeful, “It’s horrific, it is hard, we just want him safe … at the end of the day it doesn’t matter any circumstances, we just want him home.”
He was last seen wearing a dark-green jumper, dark-grey tracksuit pants, and black Nike shoes.
Adam is described as being around 180cm tall, bald with a brown beard, and has a neck tattoo that says Jeremy Campbell.
Police said Adam’s disappearance was not being treated as suspicious.
Anyone who sees Adam is urged to call Geelong Police Station on (03) 5225 3100.
