Police investigate collision at Barwon Heads and Breakwater roads

A two-vehicle collision that saw three people hospitalised during the early hours of Sunday morning is at the centre of an investigation, police saying they believe one of the vehicles failed to stop at a red light.

A two-car crash that saw three people taken to hospital on Sunday is at the centre of an investigation.

Police believe the crash occurred when one of the cars failed to stop at a red light.

Senior Constable Darcie Sword said it was understood a Toyota Kluger and a Ford Ranger collided at the intersection of Barwon Heads and Breakwater roads in Belmont about 7.30am.

“The Ford driver and the two occupants inside the Kluger were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” Constable Sword said.

Geelong man Jason, who works at nearby Petstock, arrived at work about 8.30am on Sunday and said police were still directing traffic around the area.

He said the area was pretty “empty” due to it being a Sunday.

“When I got here police were already here,” he said.

“And there was a car being towed away.”

In a statement posted to Crimestoppers on Wednesday, Geelong Highway Patrol said the

investigation remained ongoing.

“It’s believed one of the vehicles failed to stop at a red light and collided with another vehicle,” it said.

“All occupants were conveyed to hospital with various injuries.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics took three men to Geelong hospital in a stable condition.

The men, in their 20s, 40s and 50s, all had upper body injuries.
