An unemployed man spotted a shirtless runner and decided to park his car, get out and watch the victim exercising before touching himself in a sexual manner.

Paolo Fattore, 35, pleaded guilty in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday to the charge of sexual exposure and was placed on an adjourned undertaking.

Fattore, from Geelong , was driving near Landy Field on January 1 last year and decided to pull over because he saw a man running shirtless in the afternoon.

Fattore parked his car, got out and then walked around the track.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Kylie Jane said the victim saw Fattore walking around the area and looking at him.

Constable Jane said the Fattore went to the toilet block and was acting suspiciously.

The victim saw Fattore, who shorts were around his knees, starting to masturbate.

The court heard Fattore was also touching his chest with his other hand.

“The victim stopped his running entirely and shouted: ‘Hey, what the f--- are you doing?’,” Constable Jane said.

Fattore then went to his car, but was photographed by the victim who then called police.

The man’s lawyer said his client moved to Australia from Italy in 2019, and had worked in Melbourne, Sydney and Townsville in the hospitality industry.

Magistrate Peter Mellas said there the offending seemed to be out of the ordinary for Fattore.

“By pleading guilty you are accepting you did the wrong thing,” Mr Mellas said.

He was placed on an adjourned undertaking for 12 months and no conviction was recorded.
