A gym buff who pinned down a woman on a bed and watched her through her windows has been jailed.

Mitchell Robert Williamson, 32, fronted the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday via video link and was sentenced to 210 days imprisonment.

Williamson previously pleaded guilty to 41 charges, including unlawful assault, stalking and failing an oral fluid test within three hours of driving.

During sentencing, magistrate Simon Guthrie described some of charges as “particularly disturbing”.

In March this year, Williamson was in a “drug-induced paranoid state” when he pinned down a woman onto a bed and pulled down her pants.

The woman resisted, “slapping and scratching him” before she managed to escape and locked herself in the bathroom.

Williamson left before police arrived.

He was later seen by police watching her through her windows but drove off before he could be arrested.

The court heard he also drove behind and followed the victim for 2km on the Princes Highway, and frequently called her.

Williamson was also caught drug-driving after he stole tools from Serendip Sanctuary.

Officers spotted him just after midnight on March 22 at the wildlife park but he sped off, smashing through a gate.

He was later arrested at his mother’s house in Norlane, where police found the stolen tools as well as stolen cards.

Ice was found in his system.

Mr Guthrie said it was a “difficult sentencing exercise”, and said it was put to the court that Williamson was benefiting from having supports.

The court heard the offending had taken place against a background of significant loss, grief and trauma.

However, Mr Guthrie told the court it “all falls apart” when looking at a report compiled by Corrections Victoria, which the court heard was “concerning”.

According to the report, Williamson showed “little insight into his offending”, putting it down to his use of Xanax.

During his assessment by Corrections, Williamson’s demeanour was described as being hyperactive and “on another level”.

Prior to the offending, Williamson was smoking “a gram a day” of ice, as well as taking Xanax and smoking cannabis, the court heard.

However, the report found Williamson was suitable – with conditions – for a community corrections order.

Williamson was also ordered to pay a fine of $800 plus court costs of $140.40.

His license was suspended for 12 months.

Williamson will be placed onto a community corrections order for 18 months upon release.
