A man is fighting for life after crashing through a fence and into the front of a house in Geelong’s north.
Emergency services attended the frantic scene on Cox Rd, Norlane just before 4.30pm.
It’s understood the man crashed his white van into the home after suffering a medical episode.
A pair of good Samaritans, who were alerted to the accident after hearing a loud crash, attempted to free the unconscious man from the locked vehicle.
One of the pair tried unsuccessfully to smash the van’s window using a plank of wood found nearby. The other, a young man, then grabbed a metal fence pole broken loose by the crash and used it to break in and get the victim out of the car.
Ambulances were on scene shortly afterwards, taking the unconscious man to Geelong hospital in a critical condition.
Police remained on scene to control traffic, with the left lane of Cox Rd west bound closed.
The van was lucky to miss a large power pole on its way to the house, but caused significant damage in the collision. It knocked over a road sign, before ploughing through a pair of fences.
The house itself looked to have sustained significant structural damage, with SES crews on scene to appraise the situation.
The house was sold only a month ago for $400k, records show.
More to come.
