An Armstrong Creek pedophile who had sickening videos of children being abused has been sent to prison.
Liam Joseph Dalton, 51, was sentenced in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to charges including possessing child abuse material and cultivating drugs.
He was jailed for a minimum period of 32 months.
Dalton’s mobile phone was examined by police on July 17, 2023 because he had failed to meet his sex offenders reporting obligations.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Kerrie-Ann Moroney said the phone contained 2211 category one files of pre-pubescent boys involved in a sex act.
The court heard his phone also had 1115 category two files of boys involved in a sex act.
“This device contained numerous graphic files of young male children being raped by older adult males,” Constable Moroney said.
Details of the videos, which were on Dalton’s phone are too graphic to describe.
The court also heard body language and facial expressions of victims indicated they were angry they were being photographed.
When police went to Dalton’s home they also found evidence of drug paraphernalia as well as child abuse material.
Dalton also pleaded guilty to possessing other child abuse material in 2022 and when asked why he had the material, he said “I fight with it”.
Magistrate Peter Mellas sentenced Dalton to a minimum period of 32 months jail, and a maximum period of three years and four months.
In sentencing, Mr Mellas described Dalton as a “serious sex offender”.
In reading a psychological report describing Dalton, Mr Mellas said Dalton “was incapable of forming sexual relationships with adults”.
“You are drawn to children and adolescents and that is something that is just part of you,” Mr Mellas said.
“You are someone incapable of controlling, modifying your behaviours.
“You say to the psychologist who interviews you, it’s a choice between accessing that material and acting upon your urges,” he said.
Mr Mellas said that thinking was misconceived.
“It may be that you yourself aren’t committing the abuse, however … a child is being harmed somewhere,” he said.
Dalton was also placed on the sex offenders registry for life.
