A $17.5m warehouse facility in Portarlington promises significant commercial and industrial opportunities, according to plans lodged with Geelong council.

Kiel and Co Development – a Melbourne-based company that specialises in industrial business parks and warehouses – is behind the ambitious project at 11-19 Queenscliff Rd.

The company, which lists Bradley Kiel as its sole director, wants to construct the facility in three stages.

If approved, 95 warehouses would ultimately be built on the currently vacant lot.

The warehouses would cater to a variety of needs, providing space for tradesmen, business owners, and tenants to store goods and operate efficiently, according to the application.

The proposed warehouses are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing diverse storage solutions such as pallet racks, multi-tier racks, static shelving, and mobile shelving.

The warehouses would not accommodate retail or display goods.

Kiel and Co emphasised that the proposal was modest in scale and visually unobtrusive.

The design aligns with both state and local planning policies, and supported the region’s industrial growth, according to the documents.

The warehouse facility would be built on Queenscliff Rd, south of the main township.

The proposed buildings adopt a simplistic rectangular form, with elements proposed to reach a maximum height of 8m.

Kiel and Co said in its application that the warehouse facility would be a landmark development for Portarlington, providing much-needed space and setting a new standard for industrial design in the area.

The company is responsible for a number of projects in the Geelong region, including the yet-to-be finished Clae Business Estate on Separation St in North Geelong.

The estate is a collection of architecturally designed industrial and retail spaces to suit business owners and investors for personal use, business and storage.

It is designed to facilitate a collaborative and creative community-focused atmosphere.

Public consultation on the Portarlington project closes July 20.

Kiel and Co were contacted for comment.
