Jayton Lindsay allegedly involved in aggravated burglaries, denies knowledge of offending

A Leopold man has denied any knowledge of alleged offending, including aggravated burglaries and attempted armed robbery.

A Leopold man allegedly involved in a number of aggravated burglaries is accused of stealing cars and possessing a stash of drugs, a court has heard.

Jayton Lindsay, 21, fronted the Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday for a bail application charged with a number of offences including aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, attempted armed robbery and assault.

The court heard Mr Lindsay, alongside a 17-year-old co-accused, allegedly entered a home in Leopold in the early hours of August 4, this year.

Police informant Senior Constable Sarah Griffiths said the alleged victim was woken up by his dogs and saw Mr Lindsay and the co-accused standing in his dining room.

Constable Griffiths said it was believed Mr Lindsay was holding a sharp object at the time.

Mr Lindsay and the co-accused then allegedly stole two cars belonging to the victim.

Before the incident, Mr Lindsay allegedly stole a number of items from another car in Leopold including keys, a wallet, phone and bank cards.

Just before 5.30am, the co-accused was found by police after they found one of the allegedly stolen vehicles.

At 6.30am, police undertook a search warrant at Mr Lindsay’s home in Leopold and located a small bag containing a white substance when they conducted a pat down search.

Police allege Mr Lindsay also spat at a cop when he was placed in a police van.

During the search, police also allegedly found tablets, a ziplock bag containing white substance and another bag containing brown substance, as well as $1250 in cash.

Constable Griffiths said police were conducting ongoing investigations as a result of conversations and videos on Mr Lindsay’s phone regarding drug trafficking and selling firearms.

“There’s videos of drugs on his bed, quite a lot more than what we have seized at his address ... along with the firearm as well,” Constable Griffiths said.

Constable Griffiths said although no charges had been laid following examinations of Mr Lindsay’s phone, they were conducting ongoing investigations.

TMr Lindsay denied any involvement in the offending outlined in court and denied knowing the co-accused.

The co-accused was sentenced to eight months in jail for his role in the offending.

Magistrate John Bentley said he would decide if he would grant bail on Wednesday.
