A Highton man who suddenly died has been remembered as a gentle giant with an infectious laugh.

Jayden Randall-Chapman was found deceased in his bedroom last month by his carers.

His mother Carolyn Chapman said it had been a “rollercoaster” since her 29-year-old son, who lived with autism, died.

“It is devastating,” she said.

“He was (at my home) from about 8am to about 7.30pm every day.”

The day before Mr Randall-Chapman died, Ms Chapman, who was a single mother, said he was at her house until later than usual.

“He then rang me when he got home,” his mother said.

“Then I got a call about 8.30am the next morning that he was deceased in his bedroom.

“Carers tried to give him CPR but he was already gone.”

Mr Randall-Chapman was living in unit supported by his carers but was only two days away from moving back home with his family.

“We had already moved his clothing, it was just the bigger items we need to move,” Ms Chapman said.

“About three months before he died, he was diagnosed as legally blind.

“Everything was very blurry for him and I could see that his eyesight was deteriorating which was part of the reason I was moving him back home.

“He didn’t like being away from his family.”

Mr Randall-Chapman has been remembered by his friends and loved ones as a “gentle giant”.

“He had an infectious laugh, his whole face would just light up,” Ms Chapman said.

“He had a very quirky sense of humour.

“Jayden loved facts, he would always tell you facts.

“If you said something and it wasn’t factually accurate, he would tell you.

“He loved Elon Musk and he knew every detail about him.”

Ms Chapman said her son would always point out Teslas on the road and taught his niece and nephew about the technology and safety features of the electric vehicle.

A GoFundMe page, ‘Jayden Randall (Chapman) Memorial Fund’, has been set up by a friend to help the family cover bills and daily expenses as they process their grief.

Mr Randall-Chapman leaves behind his mother, two sisters, niece and nephew.
