Five extra weekend services for Warrnambool line

The state government is set to announce extra services along the Warrnambool train line on Friday in a boon for Geelong commuters.
Premier Jacinta Allan and Public Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams will announce that a new V/Line timetable will providemore trains to and from Warrnambool from April 14
The plan will see four extra weekend services on the line, with new return services on Saturdays and Sundays adding to extraservices rolled out late last year.
It means there will be five weekend return services to and from Warrnambool.
Passengers using the line will also have access to VLocity trains all weekend and weekday services for the first time.
As part of the moves, two Geelong line trains will also be extended through to Waurn Ponds every morning.
“We made regional travel more affordable for Victorian families through the regional fare cap and now we’re delivering moreservices to four regional rail lines,” Ms Allan said.
Weekend services on Ararat, Ballarat and Bendigo lines will also be increased, with a total of 50 new or extended weekendservices announced.
The government said it hoped the new services would make weekend shopping, dining and trips to the footy easier for passengerson some of Victoria’s busiest regional train lines.
It said 150 of the 200 extra weekend services promised at the 2022 election had now been delivered.
Almost 40 million train and coach trips had been taken on the V/Line network, and more than $114m saved by passengers, sincea fare cap was introduced in March 2023, it said.
