Emergency services were called to reports of a Mazda sedan crashing into a pole on School Rd about 2am Sunday morning.

The front-seat passenger of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy from the Greater Geelong area, was treated at the scene but could not be saved.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said two other teenage males, one believed to be the driver and the other a back-seat passenger, were taken in a stable condition to Geelong hospital with upper-body injuries.

A 16-year-old boy, alleged to be the driver, has been charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving cause death and other driving offences.

He was expected to face court on Sunday.

The tree-lined road where the crash happened runs between the Viva oil refinery and the exclusive Geelong Grammar school.
