A Bell Park liquor store’s “cost of living” sale, which is seeing six-packs of beer fly off the shelves for just $12, has bargain hunters frothing at the mouth.
Celebrations in Bell Park Plaza has sold more than 400 six-packs of Furphy Originals since the sale launched earlier this month.
A six-pack of Furphy Originals typically retails for about $22 while a case (24-pack) is about $50.
Owner Steve Najda started the sale because he wanted to do something to help his customers as the cost of living continues to rise.
“We’ve been noticing a lot of people feeling like they have their backs to the wall,” he said.
“Everybody seems to be after a bargain so I thought I would name it a ‘cost of living special.’”
Mr Najda, who has owned the liquor store for more than 16 years, said his customers “have a laugh” when they see the sale.
“If you can put a smile on someone’s face everyday, you’ve done a good job,” he said.
“We’ve always tried to help our customers as much as we can.
“During Covid, we were giving out free hand sanitiser to help the community.”
Mr Najda chose to put Furphy Originals on special as the beer was born in Geelong.
He said it was important to help to those in his community, especially when times were tough.
“Life is not about money, it’s about helping each other,” Mr Najda said.
