A man who was allegedly stabbed three times after a brazen daylight robbery attempt at a Waurn Ponds surf shop has escaped a “tempting” jail stint.
Beau Forehan, 33, was ordered to undertake 150 hours of community service and placed on a community corrections order for 18 months after pleading guilty to a number of offences in the Geelong Magistrates Court.
The charges included two counts of unlawful assault, possessing a controlled weapon, theft from a shop and possessing GHB, ice, cocaine and a prescription drug.
Forehan admitted to stealing just under $830 worth of goods from the Ozmosis clothing store at the Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre on September 18.
He then struck a centre manager in the face when the man attempted to call security.
Forehan was found the following day unconscious and in possession of a knife, with his defence lawyer Ryan Robertson arguing he was armed for his own protection.
The court heard he was stabbed three times later that day in an unrelated incident.
Mr Robertson said his client, who was homeless at the time of the offending, had since “found his feet” and “has a roof over his head”.
He told the court the father-of-two, who is unemployed, was embarrassed and remorseful.
Forehan also pleaded guilty to assaulting an ex-partner on in April.
He threatened to kill himself and “slashed his face with a knife” during that incident.
Magistrate Simon Guthrie told the court on Wednesday “jail was tempting” before sparing him a prison term and placing him on the community service and corrections orders.
