An Armstrong Creek man who tragically died after an asthma attack is being remembered as a hardworking person who was always supporting his family.

Navjot Singh, 36, suffered an asthma attack about 9pm on Wednesday last week and was immediately taken to hospital by his cousin Lovejot Singh.

He experienced another asthma attack at the hospital which caused a lack of oxygen to his organs and brain.

He remained at Geelong hospital, but Lovejot said on Tuesday doctors informed family members Navjot was brain dead.

Lovejot said the family was now working to get Navjot’s body flown home to India for his funeral.

Navjot moved to Australia almost six and a half years ago, and had been in Geelong since 2023.

Lovejot said Navjot loved living in Australia and had plans to support his family to also move.

Navjot had not seen his family since he moved to Australia due to Covid restrictions, study and work commitments.

He worked as a chef and on his days off from that would drive trucks part-time.

He also used to play music and was looking to get back into that hobby in 2025.

“He was a hardworking person,” Lovejot said.

“He was planning for his future and he was always working to set up things to support his family.

“Because he is not from a wealthy family so he was always thinking about bringing them here and giving them a good life once he had settled.”

Lovejot said it was difficult for the family to understand why the tragedy had occurred.

“He was talking to me five minutes before and within a couple of minutes it all changed,” Lovejot said.

“It was sudden and nobody was expecting it.

“He also had plans to go visit home this year but all his plans, everything is just gone with him.”

Lovejot has established a GoFundMe page titled “Urgent Help For Medical” to cover medical expenses and the cost of Navjot’s final journey home.

It’s understood overseas transport for a deceased person can cost between $8000 and $15,000 based on airlines, destination, health regulations and consulate requirements.

Lovejot said the fundraiser would be open until Wednesday next week, when the family was hoping final arrangements would be made for the flights.

Navjot’s funeral will be in India on a date to be confirmed.
