A concerned Geelong parent has pulled his son from a secondary school and is threatening legal action over allegations the boy was held at knifepoint during a physical education class.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous to protect his son’s identity, says a Swiss Army knife was placed at his son’s throat at Geelong High on March 11.

He claimed teachers and the school had “completely dropped the ball with it”.

This masthead can confirm a pocket knife was found to be in a student’s possession during a class on Tuesday, with the weapon handed over to staff.

The school then reported the incident to police.

It’s understood one male was suspended, although Geelong High would not confirm this fact due to privacy constraints.

The father said the family was considering pressing charges against the alleged attacker, saying his son had been left traumatised.

“He swept my boy’s legs, jumped on top of him and held the knife to his throat,” he said.

“It was a Swiss Army knife and he made threats to do something with it.”

The school has acknowledged an incident but disputes the father’s version of events, claiming his son was “not being held at knifepoint”.

“The safety of students and staff at school is our top priority,” a Department of Education spokesperson said.

Victoria Police are expected to investigate the incident.

In October 2023, Geelong High was forced into lockdown and police were called after a lunchtime incident involving at least two students.

“Geelong High School followed established procedures and implemented its student safety procedures as a precaution at about 1pm for a short period this afternoon,” a Department of Education spokesman said at the time.

“This followed an incident involving a student that occurred in the school grounds.”

The school was also locked down in Novemenber 2022, when “student safety procedures” were again enacted.

The school sent an email to parents and carers informing them of a “code yellow activation” in response to an unspecified incident at the school.
