A Geelong VFL player has accepted a suspension for a dangerous tackle that concussed a South Barwon star.

Geelong VFL player Tanner Lewis has been suspended for two games for a dangerous tackle that left South Barwon ruckman Ben Kellett concussed.

Kellett was slung to the ground by the jumper in the final quarter of South Barwon’s win over Geelong West on Saturday, with the umpire awarding Lewis a holding the ball free kick.

The Swans big man was slow to get up after the incident but play wasn’t stopped after the incident. He was taken from the ground and suffered a concussion, meaning he will be sidelined until their round 13 clash with Lara due to the AFL’s concussion protocols for local football.

Lewis was offered a three-game suspension by the AFL Barwon match review but accepted a guilty plea, bringing the penalty down to two games.

Ben Kellett was slung to the ground by Lewis.

It is a blow for the Giants, who have a tough match-up against Leopold after the bye before a winnable clash against Grovedale.

Meanwhile, South Barwon will be without their No.1 ruckman against ex-AFL ruckman Ryan Abbott when the Swans face Grovedale in round 12.

He has played four games for Geelong’s VFL side this season and kicked seven goals in six matches for the Giants with three mentions in the best players.

His teammate Tylar Watts and fellow GFNL ruckman Olivier Northam were reported for striking in their respective matches but both charges were thrown out due to inconclusive vision.
