TOOWOOMBA now has more options when it comes to fresh fruit and vegetables, with Grand Central's latest store giving residents a world-class one stop shop for produce.
Rob Smith and Chris Butters will open Toowoomba Fresh tomorrow, the first store to open in the shopping centre's new Market Room space.
It is a return to the garden city for Mr Smith, who first opened a fruit shop in Toowoomba 21 years ago. He stayed for two years before travelling the country, working in different roles.
"But I have always had a passion to get back to Toowoomba and open a fruit shop here," Mr Smith said.
"We had been working with QIC on some projects at Robina and Logan and when this opportunity came up it was just the right time, right footprint and the right offer for Toowoomba."
Mr Smith has now moved back to Toowoomba along with his 21-year-old son Zane who was born here and will work in the new shop.
"Fresh food has moved a long way in the past 10 to 15 years, particularly in metro areas," he said.
"Now we are brining the latest style and latest retailing techniques to Toowoomba."
Mr Smith describes Toowoomba Fresh as very customer friendly and open in what he calls "kiosk-style".
"It has been a long time in the planning and the building so we are extremely excited to offer Toowoomba the best and freshest produce and service," he said.
Mr Butters said the new store was "world-class".
"Toowoomba is a major city now and people of Toowoomba need a world-class fruit shop," he said.
Toowoomba Fresh offers fresh produce along with a range of continental products and small goods. The Market Room is on level one near Woolworths.
