Footy fans go-nuts for doughnuts

The sweet treat is set to pump up fans when Queensland and NSW battle it out on the footy field on Wednesday night.

Special Origin doughnuts

STATE of Origin is one of Australia’s greatest sporting rivalries, and thanks to one Toowoomba business the big win will be that much sweeter.

Homestyle Bake Toowoomba is celebrating the first game of the series with maroon and blue doughnuts available to order on each game day.

The sweet treat is set to pump up fans from across the region when Queensland and NSW battle it out on the footy field on Wednesday night.

Spokeswoman Sarah Neville said the State of Origin doughnuts were a longstanding tradition for the family-run business.

“Our customers love to get into the spirit of Origin and what better way to do so then sinking your teeth into a freshly baked doughnut covered in team colours,” Ms Neville said.

“It is a fun and enjoyable way our customers can get behind the game and have a bit of friendly competition.”

And while the local business is baking for both teams, deep down it’s banking on just the one.

“Being a family owned and operated local Toowoomba bakery there is no doubt we are Queensland supporters,” Ms Neville said.

“If the game is anything like the orders placed, Queensland will be coming out on top.”

Customers with an account can order State of Origin doughnuts for all three games.

This year the team has baked and decorated 7200 Origin doughnuts or just shy of 600 dozen and counting.
