THE Grantham Floods Commission of Inquiry has engaged Golder Associates to undertake geotechnical work to support the commission's investigations.

Golder Associates is currently undertaking some minor earthworks at Grantham Quarry, including the excavation of a number of small pits.

The investigations will help to establish how the embankments surrounding the quarry at the time of the January 10, 2011 flood were formed and how they might have performed during the floods.

The investigation is being conducted with the co-operation of quarry owner Boral.

It is due to be completed on Friday.

Meanwhile, the commission is calling for information or material relevant to its terms of reference.

Submissions close 5pm Friday, July 3.
