The Queensland Fire Department is warning residents of Killarney to stay informed as a 10 acre grass fire broke out on Sunday afternoon at about 3.45.

The Queensland Fire Department issued a warning at 4.13pm for the area between Spring Creek Road and the New South Wales border, with concerns that major roads and highways might be impacted.

Three rural fire crews are currently on scene with three more on the way.

The fire is moving in a north-easterly direction and there is no threat to any structures at this time, a QFD spokeswoman said.

QFD urges residents in the area to avoid driving through smoke, stay indoors if possible, and plan where they would go if needing to evacuate.
