Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox announces funding for Ayr youth program

As part of the Peter Dutton’ recently announced plan to combat drugs and crime, the MP for Dawson has outlined $70,000 for a Burdekin town.
An election promise for the Blue Edge Program in Ayr was outlined by Andrew Willcox as part of a $290,000 package for the Dawson electorate.
Blue Edge is a program run by Queensland Light Blue Association, a non-for-profit organisation that works with Queensland Police in high school across the state.
Mr Willcox said many members in the community have raised concerns with him about the “level of crime and drugs” in the Dawson electorate.
“The investment in law enforcement and Crime Stoppers will also help to keep people in our community safe and take real action to stamp out drugs, including date-rape drugs,” he said.
“The Coalition has a long-term plan to get Australia back on track.”
Announced by Peter Dutton on Monday the plan totals $750 million and is named “Operation Safer Communities”.
If elected Mr Dutton said the plan was to tackle criminal activity across the country.
The new plan from the Coalition includes initiative such as a new National Drug Enforcement and Organised Strike Team, stronger border screening to stop drugs, additional funding for Crime Stoppers and doubling the funding for the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.
A 12-month pilot of the National Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme has also been outlined, which would allow parents to find out whether adults close to their children are sex offenders.
Other community upgrades outlined for the Dawson electorate include $200,000 to upgrade security lighting in Mackay’s CBD and $20,000 towards an early intervention youth program at Proserpine Youth Space.
