A PRISONER accused of escaping police custody by kicking open the door of a police prison escort van on the Toowoomba Range has had his charges adjourned in the city's Magistrates Court.

Jason Lee Colless was not in court today when his charges were mentioned but was represented by his solicitor Brad Skuse of David Burns Lawyers.

Mr Skuse asked the court for an adjournment as he had to take further instructions from his client.

Colless, 29, is accused of kicking open the door of the police van which was en-route from the Toowoomba watch house to the prison in Brisbane about 8.30am, March 27.

He was already facing a number of charges prior to the alleged incident, including serious assault of police, burglary, four counts of disqualified driving and multiple stealing matters.

After the March 27 incident on the Warrego Highway at the top of the down section of the range in which he was recaptured by police a short distance away, he was charged with counts of escape lawful custody, obstructing police, stealing and two counts of trespass and entering a dwelling.

Colless has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to the charges.

Magistrate Viviana Keegan remanded Colless in custody and adjourned all charges for mention back in the same court on June 24 with the defendant's appearance in court that day excused.
