Envious about the grass being greener on the other side of the fence, a growing number of North Queensland “fanatics” are looking to lift their lawns to the next level.
To cater to this growing niche of grass lovers, locally-owned premium lawn and garden care retail store Envy Lawn Garden Legend opened its doors a fortnight ago in a transformed commercial complex at 336-342 Ingham Road, Garbutt.
The inaugural concept store offers an immersive destination for lawn and garden enthusiasts, providing expert advice, premium products, and unparalleled service.
From commercial-grade fertilisers and herbicides to battery powered equipment and maintenance tools, Envy ensures that every aspect of lawn and garden care is covered.
At the helm of Envy is Zac Holm, a Townsville Golf Course greenkeeper turned store manager, who brings a wealth of expertise and passion for outdoor spaces, supported by an agronomist (lawn scientist) and a groundskeeper for Queensland country Bank Stadium.
Mr Holm said they catered for “lawn fanatics”, along with those wanting to take lawn care more seriously, often inspired by a neighbour’s lawn.
“(We offer) products and services where people can come see, touch, feel the different varieties of grass, and also use the equipment that we got for sale, and see the different fertilisers that we have,” Mr Holm said.
“It’s a premium store for lawn and garden care, at the other end of the spectrum from Bunnings.
“(We have) a lot of knowledge, paired with commercial grade products (and equipment) aimed at the retail market.”
Customer demand is seasonal, with visitors presently snapping up the business’s own-label fertiliser in preparation for the cooler months.
Mr Holm said they were the first tenants in a newly constructed shed featuring an industrial exterior and retail interior, inspired by local businesses like ZiNG Pop Culture and Rebel Sport.
A grand opening was planned for this weekend, with “giveaways, prizes and information about our products and services”.
RWC Townsville leasing agent Troy Townsend was excited about the new addition to Townsville’s retail landscape.
“Envy brings a unique offering to our community, filling a gap for premium lawn and garden care needs,” Mr Townsend said.
“I’m confident that Townsville residents will embrace this new venture wholeheartedly.”
Ray White Commercial (RWC) Townsville director Stacie Stockham said their client purchased 336-342 Ingham Road, Garbutt in October 2022 before local builder Paul Raiteri of Raiteri Constructions carried out extensive upgrades.
Envy Lawn, Custom Cycles, and My Potential Paediatric have all signed five year leases.
“We believe this is a great showcase of the gentrification along Ingham Rd, with local investors showing confidence and investing in the commercial market,” Ms Stockham said.
