Eisteddfod kicks off with a dramatic start to the day

THE Glennie School student Isabelle Morrissey had a dramatic start to the day on the eighth day of the 73rd City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod.

THE Glennie School student Isabelle Morrissey had a dramatic start to the day on the eighth day of the 73rd City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod.

Isabelle dressed as girl detective Friday Barnes from the novels of the same name and competed against 20 other students in the primary memorised prose solo category today.

The Year 6 student said she had to get over her nerves before she performed in front of the audience.

"This is the first time I will be performing in the memorised prose category," Isabelle said.

"I have practised every morning before school and on school morning teas and lunches."

Competitors not only had to memorise the prose but had to sell their performance to the audience with a wide range of expression.

Isabelle said she felt happy when she Friday Barnes which was the reason she chose the character for the competition.
