OUR SAY: More concerns have surfaced about the safety of workers on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing project.
Tests have confirmed the presence of E. coli bacteria in drinking water tanks.
A number of workers have been affected.
The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union said testing of drinking water supplies on the project confirmed the presence of the bacteria.
The Chronicle was contacted by several workers after Nexus told crews their drinking water was contaminated on Monday.
Yet on Tuesday and Wednesday, workers claim Nexus would not release the results of the water report.
The E. coli contamination is the latest in a long list of health and safety issues to plague the TSRC construction since work began almost two years ago.
It's another blow to Nexus which faces intense scrutiny now from the State Government after Workplace Health and Safety Queensland issued 87 statutory notices.
An independent auditor is now involved and Nexus has committed to adopting his recommendations.
This water issue has to be resolved and quickly. Workers' health is paramount.
