A TOOWOOMBA woman remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition after a multi-vehicle crash on the Warrego Highway on Wednesday.
The Rangeville woman, 53, was airlifted from the scene of the crash near the Yarralla Wheat Rd, 10km west of Dalby, after the collision about 10.20am.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators are piecing together what caused the collision, but initial inquiries indicate the woman was driving a car which crossed onto the wrong side of the Warrego Highway and into the path of an oncoming truck.
A third vehicle travelling behind the truck then clipped the woman's car.
She was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital in a critical condition but she has since stabilised, police said.
Meanwhile investigations are continuing into a two-truck collision on the Warrego Highway east of Toowoomba early Wednesday morning.
The trucks collided about 5.15am near the intersection of Forest Hill Fernvale Rd at Glenore Grove.
Driver inattention is believed to be the leading cause in the crash which left one driver with minor injuries.
It is the latest in a string of crashes in the Laidley region in the past two weeks, and authorities urged all motorists to take care on the roads in the lead up, and during, the school holidays.
Operation Cold Snap will roll out across all Queensland roads from next week, targeting driver behaviour during the winter school holidays.
Laidley police Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Regan Draheim said extra officers would be out in force for the annual road safety campaign encouraging drivers to be safe and arrive at their destinations.
"It comes back to the Fatal Five," Sgt Draheim said.
"If people are going to have a drink then they need to consider their options, stay the night or make other plans for a driver, and remember to be mindful the next morning."
Operation Cold Snap will come into force next week with extra general and road policing officers focusing on the Fatal Five.
