Dramatic arrest unfolds in CBD after police chase over stolen car

Five people will face more than 30 charges after they were arrested following a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle in the heart of the Toowoomba CBD.

Five people have been charged and will front court over the coming weeks, after they were arrested in dramatic scenes in the heart of Toowoomba.

About 7.20am on Thursday a 2012 Nissan Dualis, reported stolen from a Rangeville address days earlier, was spotted driving erratically along Holberton St in Rockville.

While being tracked by both on the ground and Polair, the vehicle allegedly travelled to the Highfields area and back to Toowoomba.

About 9.40am a tyre deflation device was used on the vehicle, and after a slow-speed pursuit the vehicle hit a police car and stopped on Margaret St about 10am where five people, the vehicle’s occupants, were taken into custody.

Police officers could be seen arresting several young offenders about 10.30am on the corner of Margaret and Clifford streets when a stolen car was brought to a halt after its tyres were spiked.

A witness said multiple offenders allegedly attempted to escape on foot before being taken down by officers.

A tow truck was called to remove the stolen vehicle and a damaged undercover police car from the scene.

A 31-year-old Toowoomba City man is facing a raft of charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle burglary, obstructing police, receiving tainted property and stealing.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Friday

A 30-year-old North Toowoomba woman has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

She will face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on July 4.

A 22-year-old Wilsonton Heights woman has been charged with two counts of travelling in a vehicle with body part outside window, and one count each of contravene police direction, obstructing police, fails to wear seatbelt, possession of knife in public place and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

She is due to face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on July 11.

A 17-year-old North Booval boy has been charged with obstructing police, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing a knife in public place, stealing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear at Toowoomba Childrens Court.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstruct police, possess utensils, stealing and trespass.

He was refused police bail and is due to face Toowoomba Childrens Court.
