Dolly’s Dream and Variety South Australia have partnered to deliver 30 anti-bullying workshops to schools across parts of SA.

The grant — worth $30,000 — will fund workshops for about 750 students, with a strong focus on rural, regional and remote communities, where children are most at risk of bullying and often have limited access to support services.

“Geographical disadvantage often brings unseen challenges for children living in regional and remote areas of our State”, said Mark McGill, the Variety SA chief executive.

“We’re proud to partner with Dolly’s Dream as we work together to address this pressing social issue impacting young people today.”

Established in 2018 in memory of 14-year-old Katherine, NT girl Amy “Dolly” Everett, Dolly’s Dream is dedicated to changing the culture of bullying by providing education and support for young people, families and schools.

The workshops, Variety SA says, are designed to give young people the tools to recognise, prevent and respond to bullying.

The grant was officially presented in Katherine on the eve of the 2025 Variety 4WD Adventure, the evening before entrants set off on their journey on May 25.

The Variety 4WD Adventure is a convoy of adventurers who head off the beaten track to raise funds for children who are sick, disadvantages or living with disability.

It also marked 30 years since the event began, with entrants aiming to raising $500,000 for children in need.

Head of Dolly’s Dream Sally Sweeney said she was “incredibly grateful” for Variety’s support.

“Every child, no matter where they live, deserves to feel safe, supported and empowered,” she said.

“These workshops will provide young people with the tools to navigate mental health challenges, help them stay safe online and contribute to building a more connected

school community.”
