Discount variety store Dollars and Sense has opened its 21st store overall, and fifth in the Northern Territory, with its arrival at a Top End shopping centre that’s managed to secure a number of new tenants in recent months.
Dollars and Sense, which opened its first store in 1987 and has a presence in Queensland, New South Wales and the NT, soft-launched its new Coolalinga Central store on Saturday.
The store, which is located at the front of the centre, on the other side of the carpark from Tackleworld, has been months in the making, with chatter swirling online since flyers went up at the other stores touting for new workers.
“Dollars and Sense is excited to announce the grand opening of its newest retail location at Coolalinga Central,” a company spokesman said.
“The new store will feature an extensive range of over 6,000 products across multiple categories, offering local shoppers exceptional value and variety.
“Product categories include seasonal Christmas merchandise, party supplies, home and kitchen essentials, cleaning and laundry products, pantry staples, confectionery, storage solutions, garden and outdoor items, and branded personal care.
“This expansion marks another milestone in Dollars and Sense’s commitment to providing quality, affordable products to Northern Territory communities.”
It’s expected Dollars and Sense will host an official grand opening for the new store on Saturday, November 16.
The arrival of Dollars and Sense adds momentum to Coolalinga Central’s recent purple patch, which has seen it draw in at least two other tenants.
Of those, the big fish was renowned barbecue chef Justin Whitrow and his family restaurant, Smokey J’s Brew and Cue, which has been drawing in carnivores from across the rural Darwin area.
The other is OPA! Greek Grill, which slings yiros, cabbage rolls, pastitsio, fish and chips and dolmades.
Coolalinga Central’s owner was contacted for comment.
