The mother of an elite Sydney private school student who was allegedly attacked by his peers has broken her silence, after footage of the alleged humiliating hazing ritual emerged.

NSW Police have now confirmed they are investigating, with the school’s principal Dr Ian Lambert saying he is “disappointed and disgusted” by the incident.

Speaking to 2GB Radio on Monday, the mother of the victim – known only as Trish – claimed her son was lured to a sports ground in Rose Bay where he was “set upon” by the group.

Trish claimed the crowd of boys “ridiculed him, poured beer over his hair, pulled his shirt,” and called him “disgusting names that I don’t think he’ll ever forget.”

According to Trish, the boy also sustained physical injuries, commenting there were “bruises all over him.”

Trish said a woman who saw the incident acted as a “guardian angel” and helped the boy after he was chased by the mob in a desperate attempt to escape.

In a statement, NSW Police has confirmed that it is investigating the incident in which “a group of youths allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old boy.”

Scots College has commented that it is “co-operating fully and will assist NSW Police in every way required.”

“The wellbeing and privacy of the student and his family are our immediate priority. The College has been in direct contact with them over the weekend and is providing appropriate support,” Dr Lambert said in a statement, published by Sky News Australia.

“The conduct that has been reported, and which appears in video evidence, is completely unacceptable and stands in direct opposition to the values of The Scots College. I am disappointed and disgusted. The fact that the incident occurred off campus and outside school hours does not lessen its seriousness. Behaviour of this nature is never tolerated at Scots.

“The College has commenced its own internal investigation and is reviewing all available footage and information. Consequences will follow for the students involved, consistent with College expectations and policies, and possible outcomes include expulsion. Representative opportunities in sport, leadership, and co-curricular programs for those involved will also be reviewed.”

Trish said the incident was part of a hazing ritual called “Bob 2025” which occurs twice a year with boys between year 10 and 12 expected to take part.

“The education system has lost the ability to discipline and teach respect and accountability,” Trish said.

“Where do these minors get off treating someone like this?” Trish asked.

“What are we teaching our boys when this is OK? It’s not OK.”

Scots College has told media it will not comment any further on the matter as investigations continue.
