A small town south of Toowoomba will get a medical and dental clinic for the first time, after a developer lodged plans for a new health precinct.
Applicant Jaideep Singh submitted the proposal late last month to the Toowoomba Regional Council for a combined GP and dental practice on the corner of Balfour Street and Newman Road in Wyreema.
The town, which has grown rapidly over the past decade, is not currently serviced by medical services.
According to the report by Creative Planning’s Lynette Prince-Large, the 250 sqm building would service about 300 people per month and cater for six full-time-equivalent positions.
“There is no central business district in Wyreema and no dentists or doctors’ surgeries,” she wrote.
“The fact that the proposed development is surrounded by residences means that the dental
practice will service these houses.
“The proposed development will provide a valuable service to the people of Wyreema, as at present the residents have to drive to Drayton or Westbrook for medical attention.”
Speaking to The Chronicle, Ms Prince-Large said the services were desperately needed.
“It’s going to provide a real service to Wyreema,” she said.
Reports were also submitted relating to landscaping, parking and engineering.
The council has yet to respond to the application with an information request.
