Construction company Newlands Group has already begun work on a new three-storey commercial building in the city centre, which will include modern office space and an underground car park.
The massive project, which would fix one of the CBD’s worst eyesores, is partially the brainchild of solicitor Tom Sullivan.
A director in DSP Investments Pty Ltd, Mr Sullivan said the building had been designed to complement the historical buildings on either side, including Quest Serviced Apartments.
“It’s going to be a very smart looking building. We’ve had to design a building which blends in with the ambience of the area,” he said.
“We’re going to move our legal firm (Davidson and Sullivan) upstairs and I’m talking to someone else about moving in up there as well.
“The fact that it’s brand new and it’s in a good spot, close to the banks and the courts, it will appeal to plenty of tenants.”
Mr Sullivan said he and his business partner considered building up to six storeys but decided against it given the current economic climate.
“At the present time, we could’ve gone up six levels, but to building something that high you need tenancies to commit early,” he said.
“What we’ve built will be very nice.”
The building is expected to be completed by April next year.
Newlands Group was contacted for comment but didn’t reply in time.
