A popular Toowoomba CBD restaurant and bar has revealed expansion plans to improve the experience for patrons.
Proof BBQ and Booze on Duggan St in Toowoomba City could earn another 50sq m of floor space in the form of an uncovered terrace on the upper level, dubbed a “sky bar” in the submitted plans to Toowoomba Regional Council.
The proposal was put forward by the building’s owner GWCD Pty Ltd.
According to the report by Precinct Urban Planning’s James Williams, the extension would be used for outdoor dining and seating as part of the business’ new rooftop cocktail bar OverProof.
“The proposed terrace is not expected to result in a significant increase in patrons and will not involve an increase in the number of employees at any one time,” the report states.
“The proposed terrace will have a floor level of 4.632m above ground level, which is consistent with the existing upper floor level, and will also consist of a glass balustrade.
“Given the proposed terrace is unroofed, the terrace will not exceed the existing height of the building and will allow the development to appropriately step-down and integrated with the neighbouring premises.”
It comes four months after Proof owner Ryan Lane opened OverProof, which was inspired by iconic Brisbane cocktail bar the Gresham.
“It is a nice contrast within the same venue,” Mr Lane told The Chronicle in October.
“We are going to change things up a bit with Proof closing at 10pm and OverProof open until late.”
Mr Lane was approached for comment.
