Toowoomba Regional Council grants $1m reduction in infrastructure charges to Oakey subdivision
The Toowoomba Regional Council has approved a massive reduction of a developer’s infrastructure charges for a 120-lot subdivision.
A developer approved for a 120-lot subdivision in a small town west of Toowoomba has been granted a massive reduction in his infrastructure charges by the council.
Applicant Cameron Donaldson was recently approved for a time extension to the plan for a large housing estate on Oakey Cutella Road in Oakey.
The three-stage subdivision, which was first proposed back in 2005, came with an infrastructure charges bill for more than $2.7m.
But the application submitted a request to the council to waive $1.067m of the charges under the Temporary Economic Development Incentives for District Townships Policy.
According to council planner Nadia McLeod, the development met the criteria under the policy to earn the reduction.
“To encourage economic development in the district townships, council may, in certain
circumstances, accept a reduced adopted IC amount or infrastructure contribution amount in satisfaction of an adopted infrastructure contribution condition in a development approval,” her report said.
“The request satisfies the criteria of the Policy and it is therefore recommended that a discount be applied.”
The councillors endorsed the officer’s recommendation unanimously.
