An upcoming Toowoomba fast food precinct is set to undergo some major changes, including the addition of another drive-through eatery for a national chain.
Applicant Devine Investment Trust last week lodged a proposal with council to change the existing approved plans on a large parcel of land on Anzac Avenue at Harristown.
The original precinct had been given the green light in February 2020, with the approval including one drive-through outlet and four other walk-in tenancies.
Work has already started on the drive-through, which will become the city’s second Oporto.
Now the developer wants to scrap three of the walk-in spaces and make the fourth another drive-through site.
The plans lodged with the application suggest cafe chain Stellarossa will be the tenant.
“Stage one (first tenancy) of the development is currently under construction, and no changes to the building or overall layout of this stage are proposed with exception to the addition of a carparking space to replace the former proposed drive-through exit adjacent to Devine Street,” the report by Precinct Urban Planning said.
“Stage two of the development will involve development of one tenancy including a drive-through facility (tenancy two).
“This will involve the removal of proposed Tenancies 3 – 5 from the current approved development, and relocation of Tenancy two towards the Anzac Avenue frontage of the site.
“As a result of pre-lodgement discussions held with Toowoomba Regional Council on November 4 2021, the location of the drive-through facility and orientation of tenancy two has been altered to reduce back-of-house functions fronting Anzac Avenue and to ensure the entrance of Tenancy two addresses the street frontage.”
