Toowoomba developer Robert Weymouth planning new subdivision inside city bounds

With the Toowoomba housing market hot and reports of land shortages surfacing, one developer hopes to fast-track a new 42-lot subdivision near the heart of the city.

A Toowoomba developer has ramped up plans for an “exciting” subdivision near the heart of the city to help address concerns about housing.

Robert Weymouth, who recently opened the Pearl Energy in Harlaxton, has put forward a proposal to turn 10 acres of land into 42 allotments on Dallang Street in Middle Ridge.

The new subdivision would retain a large property in the southwest corner of the block as well as another house, with the balance converted into new lots worth at least 600 sqm.

Mr Weymouth said the land was one of the last remaining large parcels left on the eastside of Toowoomba.

He said he hoped the development could increase the number of lots available in the greater Toowoomba area.

Vision for Toowoomba CBD

“As you know there’s a shortage of housing, so if we can assist this by getting it through council quickly that would be great,” Mr Weymouth said.

“We have kept the lot sizes all above 600m2 with wide frontages of approximately 20m.

“The reason we have done this is to encourage our purchases to construct high quality houses with decent separation from their neighbours.

“This is prime Middle Ridge land in a lovely park side setting and we are proud to be able to develop this piece of land.

“Our proposal is code-assessable and we have already been working with council on the layout and details of our proposal.”

Developers have been moving quickly to release more lots into the market in recent months, with the council reporting an increase in the number of new lot sealings since the start of the year.

The council has yet to respond to the application, but Mr Weymouth he had pre-lodgement meetings with council planning staff as well as Councillor Megan O’Hara Sullivan.

“We are mindful of the current land shortage in Toowoomba so we are trying to fast track this project to bring the lots to completion as soon as possible,” he said.
